From the Curator

A vine planted in 1880 has survived phylloxera, Prohibition, the Depression, multiple recessions, and multiple generations of farmers deciding it wasn’t worth the trouble to replant. The fact that it’s still in the ground is not incidental. It is the entire argument.

California’s old-vine heritage is irreplaceable—Zinfandel blocks in Sonoma from the 1880s, Carignan from the 1940s in Mendocino, Grenache and Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet and field blends where nobody is entirely certain what’s growing because the original planting card was lost decades ago. These vineyards produce wines with a site-specificity that young vines simply cannot replicate. Concentrated, structured, with a fruit quality that comes from roots spending sixty years finding water in exactly the right places.

The best custodians of these sites—the Ridge Vineyards crew, the Historic Vineyard Society producers, the small family farms that have resisted every offer to replant with something more profitable—are making the most distinctive American wine happening right now. This club exists to find them and get their bottles to your door before the allocations close. They do, every year, faster than the year before.

The Wines

What kinds of wines arrive in a Heritage Vineyards pack?

Four bottles from California’s irreplaceable old-vine sites. The kinds of vineyards that were planted before anyone was keeping track—and are still producing something nothing else can replicate.

Sonoma

Old-Vine Zinfandel

Vines from the 1880s and 1890s, still producing. The fruit quality from century-old roots is not a matter of taste—it’s a geological fact.

Mendocino

Heritage Carignan

The 1940s Carignan blocks that Mendocino doesn’t advertise nearly enough. Tannic, herbal, deeply site-specific—one of California’s most underappreciated wines.

Field Blend

Mixed Heritage Block

Grenache, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, and whatever else was planted when nobody was taking notes. Fermented together. Can’t be replicated.

Discovery

Historic Vineyard Find

The fourth slot goes to a producer or block we hadn’t planned on—an allocation that opened up, a farm that made its first wine, a site that’s been hiding.

The Edition Card

Every season ships with a collectible card. Every card closes when the season does.

Each edition of Heritage Vineyards ships with a collectible card documenting that season’s curation—the bottles, the story, the moment. The card is available only to subscribers of that specific edition. When the season closes, that card is gone. Non-subscribers can purchase the wines when available, but do not receive the edition card and cannot acquire it afterward.

Lorekeeper subscribers who hold cards from every edition in a completed arc receive a bonus card—a commissioned illustration issued exclusively to those who were present for the whole thing. The set is the achievement.

Edition I · Now Forming

The vines were planted. They waited for you.

Season I subscriber slots are forming now. The edition card from Season I will not be available after the window closes. Neither will the subscriber variant. The wines can theoretically be found elsewhere. The card cannot.
