Producer
Fongoli farms Sagrantino in Montefalco in the heart of Umbria, one of the most compelling and underappreciated wine regions in Italy. Sagrantino is native to Montefalco and only grown there — one of the most tannic grapes in the world when young, and one of the most complex when given time.
🌘 Dusk· 🪨 Stone
Dusk primary — Sagrantino's massive tannin structure, dark fruit concentration, and serious aging potential is the essence of Dusk energy. This wine does not apologize for what it is. Stone secondary — the chalk and stone soils of Montefalco run through the wine's tannins and deliver a mineral precision that keeps all that fruit and structure from ever feeling heavy.
Tasting note
Dusty red florals and crushed stone evolving into sour cherry and blood orange. Pure juice on the palate with masses of ripe wild berries, chalk dust minerality, and a finish of pretty rose. 93pts Vinous. Sagrantino is one of Italy's most tannic and age-worthy grapes — in 2015 Fongoli made a stunning example.

93pts Vinous:The 2015 Montefalco Sagrantino opens slowly in the glass, as dusty red florals and crushed stone evolve into sour cherry and hints of blood orange. This is like pure juice on the palate, yet with the depth and intensity of Sagrantino. Masses of ripe wild berries and depths of minerality form under an air of purple-tinged florals. A resonance of chalk dust and pretty rose lingers, while the 2015 finishes lightly structured and with a hint of hard candies that lingers on and on.

100% Sagrantino. From biodynamically farmed, hand-harvested estate fruit. The younger vines of about 15 years old go into this traditional Sagrantino (the oldest vines go into the Fracaton bottling). Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, a bare touch of sulfur and no temperature control in vat. The maceration is around 30 days. The wine is aged for a minimum of 5 years in old Slavonian oak botti. It is bottled without fining, filtering or additional sulfur. 2015 is still the current release as of summer 2022
