Producer
De Sousa is a reference grower-producer on the Côte des Blancs, biodynamically farming Grand Cru vineyards in Avize. Their Mycorhize cuvée is named for the mycorrhizal fungi they deliberately cultivate in their vineyard soils — a reflection of a winemaking philosophy that treats the soil as a living system rather than a substrate.
✨ Mystic· 🪨 Stone
Mystic primary — biodynamic viticulture, mycorrhizal cultivation, and a winemaking philosophy that treats soil as a living ecosystem produces wines that go beyond conventional terroir expression into something genuinely transformative. Stone secondary — Grand Cru Avize chalk delivers the mineral precision and focused intensity that makes De Sousa's wines so compelling.
Tasting note
95pts William Kelley, Wine Advocate: complex bouquet of citrus oil, lemon curd, freshly baked bread and subtle hints of walnuts and stone fruit. Full-bodied, vinous, and textural with a broad, concentrated palate. Mycorhize refers to the mycorrhizal fungi that De Sousa cultivates in their biodynamically-farmed vineyards — the wines taste of a living ecosystem.

A deeply underrated Champagne! This stuff is so lavish and mineral. High-end and terroir-driven.

95 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The latest rendition of De Sousa’s Blanc de Blancs Mycorhize is showing brilliantly, offering up a complex bouquet of citrus oil, lemon curd, freshly baked bread and subtle hints of walnuts and stone fruit. Full-bodied, vinous and textural, it’s broad and concentrated, with a fleshy core of fruit, racy acids and a seamless, complete profile that’s enlivened by a pearly mousse. This is a fabulous effort that’s well worth seeking out. It's based on the 2016 vintage and was disgorged with three grams per liter dosage in April 2019. Drink: 2021-2035. (Sep 2021)" (2016 base, this is the 2018)

95pts Gault-Millau: Beautiful, creamy, lively mousse for this cuvée made from vines over 50 years old. A nose of rare complexity, with essences of preserved lemon, white and yellow fruits. The whole is both powerful and restrained, more earthy than chalky. On the palate, this grand blanc de blancs gives off all its energy and breadth before lengthening into a finish that combines acidity and minerality. A great wine to take off the beaten track in a land-sea pairing or a spicy dish like a lobster fideua (a kind of paella prepared with small pasta).
